I just checked the course reserve shelves and both titles are there. I wonder if this was a simple mixup of terms. Since our course reserve section is distinct from our hold shelf, our staff may not look in course reserves when a patron says they are looking for an item that is "on hold." If you instruct your students to ask for course reserves, our staff will definitely be able to find them.
