Q. What does "peer reviewed" mean?

Peer-review happens when a researcher submits an article to a scholarly journal. The journal editors arrange to have the article reviewed by scholars--experts in the subject area. The reviewers decide if the article is acceptable to publish, needs revision before being published, or unsuitable for publication.

Peer-review holds journal articles to a high, scientific standard.  Although peer-reviewed articles are not guaranteed to be absolutely correct, they have more authority than popular articles.
